CONCORD TWP. – As part of their SkillsUSA project, American Spirit, Auburn Career Center students are spreading Valentine’s cheer to local veterans.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization that is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Competitions are held annually and include numerous contests.

For their project, Auburn Allied Health students Victoria Samardzija (Chardon), Haley Griffin (Chardon) and Irais Aboytes (Fairport) worked with other students to make Valentine’s Day cards for veterans. The cards will be distributed by the Veterans Affairs (VA) home health care team in Cleveland.

“We wanted to do something nice for the veterans,” said Griffin.

Through their efforts, they were able to reach their goal and make 100 cards.

“It’s for a great cause. It makes me feel good about doing something for someone else and to be able to show appreciation for their service and protecting our country,” said Samardzija.

“We wanted to return the favor and let them know they are appreciated,” said Aboytes.
